Fast-Paced Read
I liked the story. It held my interest even though I had a couple of problems with it. I liked a lot of the characters. The ones I didn’t I wasn’t suppose to. The story moved along at a fast pace and was filled with intrigue. Which brings me to my problems with it. Point of view changed a few times during the story. I can handle that when the author keeps me in the know. With this story, they changed with no real warning or break. Several times I was jarred out of the story by the abrupt change in POV. In all honesty, when I find this in a book the storyline has to have gotten my attention. It is one of the things can can cause me to shelf a book as, “did not finish”. The other problem I had was with the character Ken. I felt that there really wasn’t any closure with him and I was left hanging. I don’t want to go totally into who and why because it would be a spoiler. I would rather you read the book and judge yourself. I mention for the authors benefit. Despite those issues that I had with it, I really enjoyed the book. I kept turning pages to see how things would turn out.
Thank you to BookTasters and the author for bring the book to my attention for review consideration.

Leah was a rebel. She chose to live her life outside the constraints of 19th century English society. She rebuked any parental control and choose to decide her own fate. From England to the Caribbean and then frontier America, she was loved by family and friends yet still had enemies. Sailing the seas with pirates lurking about helped chisel her character as she created a life of her own near the sea.
Explore the scenic countries with Leah and learn about the native cultures and taste their delicacies. As a mixed race female, she placed prejudices under her feet and learned to recognize and accept love even if it was against the law.

A fast-paced adventure
This was a fun-filled, fast-paced adventure. The main character, Leah was enjoyable and spirited, and I liked following her escapades on the ocean and in search of love.
A great tale of someone overcoming the odds and stepping out of her comfort zone to grow as a person.
Thank you to the author for sharing her book, I am reviewing it voluntarily.

and I must say that it turned out to be a great decision. I could see early on
By Lucidity
Wow, what an adventure! Admittedly, I’m usually not a big fan of these kinds of books (I tend to stick to the sci-fi and romance genres), but I decided to give “Cross-Ties” a chance and go into the read with an open mind, and I must say that it turned out to be a great decision. I could see early on, within the first few chapters, that the author is truly talented when it comes to weaving words into stories. The prose flows in a very smooth manner while conveying everything in a very vivid way – I personally found it easy to visualize many of the scenes and also empathize and understand the feelings of Leah, the protagonist. I highly recommend ‘Cross-Ties’ to readers looking for a genuinely immersive and adventurous read. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future releases by Carolyn M. Bowen.

By News Articles1
After her parents killed in a car wreck, Kate then finds out that the man she is going to marry is cheating on her. She decides to make a new start and goes to live at her grandmother’s Florida plantation home which needs a lot of work. She’s rich so that’s easy enough. The problem is that her inheritance comes with a secret that puts her at great risk. When we meet AJ, his reasons for helping Kate are shrouded in mystery. Murder, stalking, and international intrigue give the story plenty of twists and turns. A dash of romance spices things up for us. Great story, characters and settings. A very good read.
